View Full Version : Chris Brown Arrested After Alleged Rihanna Assault

Grammy day was supposed to be a glittery affair for R&B's reigning It couple, Chris Brown and Rihanna. But things went horribly amiss.
About the time Brown was scheduled to be singing "Forever" onstage at Los Angeles' Staples Center, he was instead detained by police, being questioned for allegedly roughing up Rihanna.
Brown, 19, turned himself in at the Wilshire station around 6:30 p.m. and was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats. The case will now be sent to the district attorney's office and further charges could be filed. He was released from jail after posting $50,000 bail.
Sources tell E! News that the alleged victim was Rihanna, 20, and that she suffered visible bruises on her face during an altercation that took place hours earlier. Both in turn balked on scheduled Grammy performances.
A spokeswoman for Brown's label declined comment. Rihanna's publicist, Amanda Silverman, would only tell E! News that the 20-year-old "Disturbia" singer was involved in an unspecified traffic mishap. "Rihanna is well," the rep said. "Thank you for concern and support."
Per department policy, police declined to identify the alleged victim in the incident, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. in the Hancock Park area, apparently as the two were heading home from Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy bash, where they had been all smiles.

Rihanna cooperating with police in assault investigations
6:33 PM, February 9, 2009
R&B star Rihanna is cooperating with investigators building a domestic violence case against her boyfriend, the singer Chris Brown, a police source said today.
The source said the 20-year-old performer, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is providing “ongoing” cooperation with detectives who booked Brown on Sunday on suspicion of making criminal threats against her.
An early-morning altercation with Brown following a pre-Grammy Awards party left Rihanna with bruises and a scratch to her face, according to police sources. Her injuries were treated at a “major medical facility,” a police source said.
Brown, a 19-year-old with a double-platinum record and dance moves frequently compared to those of Michael Jackson, had fled before officers arrived, police said.
He remained free on $50,000 bail, but neither he nor his attorney would speak about allegations that rocked the Grammys ceremony. Both Brown and Rihanna were nominated, but neither attended the ceremony.
The fight occurred after midnight on a quiet block in Hancock Park, where Brown had stopped a rented Lamborghini he was driving. According to police, several people saw or heard a loud, violent confrontation. The luxury car was impounded because the alleged assault may have begun in the vehicle, a police source said.

His world may be in upheaval, but Chris Brown is holed up in a Hollywood hotel, keeping quiet.
While information continues to trickle out about what was apparently an ugly dispute between the R&B star and his girlfriend, Rihanna, one of his major sponsors, gum maker Wrigley, is distancing itself from the 19-year-old "Forever" singer.
According to a source close to the investigation, Rihanna made the 911 call to police after Brown "fled on foot" from the scene following the attack. Two officers from the LAPD Wilshire Division found Rihanna in Brown's rented silver Lamborghini "beaten really badly and hysterical."
Brown had taken the keys to the car with him and Rihanna was basically left on the side of the road with the car.
"Rihanna didn't want anyone to touch her, she was in so much pain," the source says.
Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, had visible bruising and scrapes on her face and what appeared to be bite marks on her body. Officers took her to the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment.
A member of Rihanna's inner circle tells E! News her family is making plans to get her out of L.A.: "They want to get her back to Barbados. They want to keep her away from Chris right now."

To a certain extent, yes, we make our own realities,
but life has a way of not giving two shits about "OUR"
reality. I brought up an extreme circumstance b/c
for a lot men, that's where the "never hit a woman"
flies right out the window.
I don't know if you're an old head or a young dude,

I for one believe you shouldn't hit a woman but I had an incident where I threw that thought out the window.
The mother of my son accused me of keeping him "too long" so when I dropped him off at her house of course she s hit talkin, disrespectin me and hitting on me. Enough is enough now so I grabbed her and told her " You really don't want to go there with me now do you." I go to work and get a phone call from her saying she done called the police and about 20 minutes later the Boys In Blue show up to my place of work and arrest ya boy for assault and battery. I spend 27 hours in jail for basically being a father who wants to spend every possible moment I can with him, mind you this is my 1st time ever in jail. Honestly that time in there kept me from doing something real stupid at the time. My point is you never know what you will do unless you are in that situation. If they were regular citizens no one would even care.
I was commenting on something I knew nothing about. I just watched the video detailing the extent of her injuries and Chris Brown is shit for what he did. I understand broken resolves when someone fucks up another's life but this is beyond that....HE BEAT HER.
I apologize for everything I said before.

If there's a reason to hit anyone, there's a reason to hit anyone!
Chris Brown lost ALL respect for beatin her down like that. i mean wtf??? she small as hell too, probly had no chance.
and rumors are RUNNIN WILD on this, i done heard everything from "she gave him herpes" (which is obviously BS) to "she always beats on him, and one day she popped him in the balls and he just snapped"
the truth (and the pics) will come out b4 long tho ("classified" info always does lol)
BUT with all that said, as a PERSON u have the right to DEFEND yoself, a woman just as capable as beatin yo ass as any other person in the world. Theres an EXTREMELY fine line between defendin yoself n abuse tho... the man has to try n remove himself, and the woman gotta not provoke n taunt him, it goes both ways and thats just speakin in general, not cb n rhiana situation
and his career isnt over, he gon do the "i was stupid" interview ....he still gon make albums and ppl still gon buy em....n he gon get endorsements again thats the way the america works...
One thing that's reoccuring in this thread is that it's okay to defend yourself against yourself, and I agree. But the extent Rihanna's injuries sound, I can't picture him having to defend himself to hurt her that much...
I could see her having a scratch or so, but bruises and contusions..???
Yes, there are two sides to the story, so until I hear the full details, I'll reserve judgement, but CB is lookin' at fault here...
Glad to see the forum is full of (potential) woman beaters. Hope your daughters and/or sisters meet men that think beating on a woman is funny and/or justified and/or REAL SHYT. Fucking assholes.

chris brown a "WALKING DEAD MAN" according to JAY-Z's people
NY POST:
Chris Brown's got 99 problems - and Jay-Z's a big one.
The hip-hop powerhouse, who rapped "99 Problems," was enraged when he heard that Brown allegedly beat up Rihanna, the R&B star whom Jay-Z discovered and mentored.
"He hit the roof," a source close to him told Us Weekly. "Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew."
Brown, 19, allegedly left gal pal Rihanna with contusions to her face, a cut lip, bloody nose and bite marks on her arm and fingers following an argument the night before both were to perform at the Grammys.
Residents called 911 after hearing her screams, and police said Rihanna's shrieks could be heard in the background.
"It mostly recorded the sound of a screaming woman," LAPD Detective Deshon Andrews said.
The couple had hit a rough patch in their year long romance, according to MTV, and blog rumors swirling around the pair - including offhand re marks about infidelity and fights - didn't help.
The LA blowup fol lowed an evening of escalating tension be tween the two, which came to a head as they drove in a Lamborghini from a party at music mogul Clive Davis' house early Sunday and she tossed the car keys out the window, E! News reported.
"He pimp-slapped her and punched her in the face," a friend of Rihanna told Us.
Brown then allegedly choked Rihanna and said, "I'm going to kill you," E! News reported. When she slipped into unconsciousness, Brown allegedly fled.
Rihanna was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Brown later turned himself in and was charged with making a criminal threat. He was released on $50,000 bail. Both canceled their appearances at the awards show and later events.
WAKS-FM, a Cleveland-area radio station, has stopped playing Brown's music until the allegations are resolved; so, too, have stations in
Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.
Police handed the case over to the LA County prosecutor's office, which sent it back yesterday for further investigation.
Jay-Z has long been protective of Rihanna, the 20-year-old Barbadian beauty he helped make a star.
In 2007, Rihanna - whose song "Umbrella" was burning up the charts - acknowledged that Jay-Z had to give the OK before any guy would approach her.
"I just found out from a mutual friend that guys will talk to Jay first before they try to approach me," Rihanna told People magazine. "He's very protective. Jay has my best interests in mind.
"If it's a good guy, I know Jay won't shut him down. But if he's not, Jay will be, like, 'No, no, no.' "

Okay when you boil it damn there is a double standard... Men real men should just walk away(truth is its hard to be a real man and back down) I have seen some cases where it is hard for man to back down especially when he is being assaulted. Truthfully there are men battered by their wives, who are caught in a catch twenty two damn if you don't and jailed if you do..
Me I have snatched my wife up for laying her hands on me(I didn't strike her, shake her or slam her down to any surface just picked her up and sat her down) that is as close as I have come to laying my hands on any woman... She never slapped me again after that. Don't put your hands on me And I won't lay my hands on you... I have a problem with any person laying their hands on me ... Anger is a Muther of beast, in a rage people will do stupid things..... A man shouldn't have to result to violence of any kind unless backed in an inescapable situation then things change...
We have become a culture where a woman beating up or beating down a man is consider acceptable because he is a man... Here is the reality check if you are forced to defend yourself then laying your hands on that woman is alright in my book.. Now on the other hand to maliciously harm or abuse that woman is no reason to do so, you are a man now act like one... Verbal abuse or mocking is no reason, only when bodily harm or violence that will mane you or kill you is acceptable in my book..
here is something to think about...
"For centuries, women have been stereotyped as the passive victims of violence and aggression. Yet experts are now warning that record numbers of men are being physically abused by their stressed- out wives and girlfriends.
New figures show that the number of calls to domestic violence helplines from male victims has more than doubled over the past five years. And now one of the world's leading feminist journals will investigate the issue of male abuse for the first time in its history: the Psychology of Women Quarterly will devote a whole edition to research on violent women and their behaviour towards men."

:veryshocked: oh snap, I almost forgot about Jigga's relationship with Rihanna. That totally slipped my mind...

I'm pretty sure Rihanna didn't deserve to get hit, let alone beat down. I won't, however, act like there isn't a situation in which a woman wouldn't get hands put on her, though. It would be an extreme situation, but it could happen.

I Have Never Hit A girl And I Pray That I Never Have To
The Only Situation That Would Make Me Strike A Woman Is If The Woman Is Harming One Of My Family Members...
For Example... If A Girl Is Harming My Sister, Mother, Grandmothers, or Aunts... I'll Knock Her Ass Out (Say What You Want About Me I'm Just Being Honest)
If One Of My Male Family Members Isn't Able To Defend Or Protect Himself And A girl Is Harming Him.... I'll Knock Her Ass Out
Those Are The Only Circumstances ThatWould Make Me Hit a Woman
What Chris Brown Did Was Wrong... We All Have Our Demons And We Now Know What One Of His Is... But I'm Not A Judge And I'm No Better Than Him So On That Note... :paper:
That ain't cool. Even if they're some idiots/ppl you disagreed with, you shouldn't wish ill will on other people they care about...
Well, according to the posts I reacted to, they should be able to beat on my wife or sisters or daughter if she acts like crazy bitch with an axe to grind. One dude suggested that his attack wasn't vicious enough. But what really pissed me off is the fact that the first reaction by a lot of people here was to try to justify what he did. HE BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF A 20 YEAR-OLD GIRL THAT WEIGHS 135 POUNDS. For me, the visceral reaction should be revulsion, not posting jokes or coming up with completely unrelated scenarios justifying beating on a woman.
And if you can't dismiss the physical attacks of a female without beating her like bitch ass Chris Brown did, you might want to hit the weight room. I have been in that situation twice. What did I do? I grabbed her hands, told her "calm the fuck down," and left the scene. One time, I left the girl in my own apartment.
Maybe it's because I have three younger sisters. Maybe it's my black militancy. But I hate to see one of my black women treated like that. Unless she has a weapon, it should never come to that.
And that's just how I feel.

And I agree 100%...It's a personal preference I have bruh, don't take it personal. I'm in a stage in my life where I' tryna love my enemies and those who offend me...that's another story...but I alluded to the same thing. There's nothing Rihanna could have done, physically or verbally, to deserve that. The 'rumors' are starting to sound more and more true. I'm waiting to hear the facts before I decide I feel about this...
I'm with you, I got a sister (a fan of his), a mother, aunts and cousins, so I feel you. I think it's a thing against us blacks. I'm watching the news and already after droppin' the Callie thing and yet another little white girl gettin' snatched up by her own family. Let Jessica Simpson or Reese Witherspoon or some other white women get beat; there wouldn't be any jokes. I've seen Rihanna joke all over the 'net on black ran sites. We just don't respect our women enough, nor you we value them as much as they deserve. Rihanna's black, so ignorant ppl assume she did something to deserve an assualt...

Personally I'm amazed that this is actually REAL and TRUE. Initially I thought it was some big joke and he didnt really assault her or hit he he probably just pushed her or slapped her and it was blown out of proportion but now it's gotten to (litereally) an assault level and to the point where Chris' career is struggling....it's insane how this is working out now.
Men shouldnt hit women. Just as women shouldnt hit men. I hit my bf, and i've always said that if i slap him he can slap me back or hit me back or whtever the case may be. But realistically speaking- my force and his force are completely different. My slap to him is probably like a little kids. His slap to me could cause some serious damage cus he hits hard.... and that applies to MOST situations.
So really and trully WHAT could Rihanna have done to be beat down like this?? Does Chris just have serious anger issues?? That's bizarre.

Not saying what he did was justified but not 1 man in this thread who has or have had a woman and they didn't at 1 point wanna bash her damn skull in. Obviously no one has done it but a woman can press you to a point where you might wanna go that route. Women, yall know what I'm talking about. Taking it to a point where if a man reacts he goes from being the victim to being a monster who whips on his lady.

I'm married to a crazy-ass Trini lady who keeps a machete, that her dad gave her, in the garage just to correct a nigg@ in case I should get outta line so that's one reason why I don't put my hands on my woman plus I wasn't raised like that.
Not to say that's it's justified but Chris Brown was raised in a house where he saw his mother abused on almost a daily basis and it's understandable how he can believe that's how a man is supposed to behave. So before we're so ready to throw this young brotha in a cave and forget him for one mistake, let's first see that he gets some help for whatever he's dealing with

There are plenty of ways you can understand why criminals do the things they do, but there is a reason why people go to jail in the first place. Jails are correctional facilities that hold criminals until they feel they can actually be released released without presenting a risk to society. Also his father beat his mother on a regular basis, wouldn't he do everything in his power not to end up like his old man?

Jails are MEANT to be correctional facilities, but they're not.
They're just cages to keep people in. There isnt any system in place for people to actually be helped while in jail to change, to maek their term worthwhile for them once they leave. Its just a case of, lock em up and leave.

Of course he didnt just up and decide to beat her out of nowhere and for nothing. She did something to irritate him. But the fact remains that under NO circumstance is he justified for beating her to that point. Becuase if we justify Chris for this- we can simply say that it's always the chicks fault for getting beat cus she did SOMETHING. Everyone does something wrong at one point or another and beating the shit out of the person is NOT the answer at all.

The LAPD sold the picture to a tabloid and apparently for a hefty price. They will never find the person in the department that sold the photo and of course the tabloid (TMZ is the tabloid that released the photo) will never tell who the person was in the department that sold the photo to them. I agree with you 123 it is really sad when people sworn to protect us are profiting from information that is a part of a criminal investigation. They are potentially hurting their own investigation by doing this.
Real Talk: IF A WOMAN IS MAN ENOUGH TO HIT A MAN...SHE BETTER BE MAN ENOUGH TO GET HIT BY A MAN!
Just like everyone else, I don't know the details behind the Rihanna & Chris incident but to say a man should never ever hit a woman is just comical. Who as a person deserves to be physically assaulted and not have the right to defend themself? Some people claim it's not very "manly" to hit a woman. Ok, someone please tell me when during the history of man-kind has it ever been considered "manly" for a man to get his ass beat by a woman!! I have yet to meet a man or woman who saw a man get his ass beat by a woman and thought he was "manly".
You cannot confuse a woman beater with a man who hit a woman back. Why do people act like women shouldn't have to control their anger/temper just like men?? If you get angry and hit somebody there are consequences for that action and in my mind you have just given consent for that person to hit you back! No REAL WOMAN goes around physically attacking men! A woman that doesn't hit men doesn't get hit by "men". She can only be hit by a punkass woman beater who will get his when it's all said and done.
I'll tell you this much...I've seen a lot of women get beatdown by men (some of them deserved it...some didn't) but the WORST beating I've ever seen a woman take came from ANOTHER WOMAN! This chick was outside of her ex-boyfriends krib fucking up his car and he caught her. He was going to beat the shit out of her but his SISTER was at his house at the time and decided to handle it for him. His sister beat that woman within an inch of her life. She ripped chunks of hair off her head, slammed her face into the street multiple times, stomped her, hit her with rocks and shit,...just completely FUCKED HER UP! He actually had to pull his sister off that chick because he felt sorry for ol' girl. Now you tell me...do you feel any better that she was beaten by another woman even though this chick now has permanent scars and had to go through so much pain? At least HE didn't hit her right? It's all good as long as the beating comes from the same gender? Hell, she deserved it?!?? Truth be told, if his sister wasn't there and he was the one that hit her...I firmly believe he would NOT have done as much damage to her as his sister did! But many would consider him "un-manly" and a "woman beater" if he touched her. Yeah ok, WHATEVER!
If that picture of Rihanna's battered face was the result of a beating that came from a female friend of Chris who he had beat her so he wouldn't be considered a "woman beater" would you feel better?
My point is simply that nobody should be hitting anybody! I have a hard time feeling sorry for anyone who starts a physical confrontation and gets their ass beat. I don't care what gender that person is.

Point Taken. There is a double standard when it comes to the domestic violence issue. If a dude gets abused by a female that he is in a relationship with then he gets ridiculed, but if a man abuses a woman then he is punished more harshly than he would've been punished if he had assaulted another man. Given all that... dawg, for the most part men are physically more stronger than most women. This is just basic human anatomy. I agree with you that all violence should be considered unacceptable, but their is a difference between defense and abuse. More often than not a man can very easily defend himself from being abused by a woman. There is NO REASON for a man physically able to defend himself from being assaulted by a woman to retaliate with violence. It is completely unacceptable I'm sorry.

Well put. I was trying to convey this point, but I'm a man of few words.
I hear what you're saying. Obviously men are stronger than women but that does not give women a right to hit men and not expect to get hit back. Just like you said "it's basic human anatomy" we all know the differences in male & female strength! So why do you think a woman would even start a physical altercation with a man in the first place? You ever notice the same women who are quick to hit a man are not so quick to hit another female who's bigger, stronger, crazier, and more aggressive than they are? Hhhmm I wonder why that is  LOL, they know there's no double-standard discouraging another female from hitting her back. It's REAL easy to hit a person that you don't think can hit you back. Because of their perceived protection against men, these women view men as human punching bags.
The statement "men are stronger than women" really isn't a good defense on this subject. What if a smaller/weaker man hits you? Will you not hit him back as well? You're just going to try to restrain him? If you say it's ok to hit a man back even if he's smaller, but you can't hit any woman back, then you must not view women as equals.
One last thing...if you're always defensive in regards to being attacked by a woman...there's nothing discouraging her from continuing her violence towards you. That's why you see "guys" on talk shows that get their ass beat daily by their women. Because they are always defensive...they just take the blows or try to hold her. If she never faces any consequences for her violence she'll happily continue. Not to mention, she will not respect you as a man. Like I said before, it's not masculine for a man to get beaten by a woman. A woman will not respect a man that allows that to happen.
If you could walk up and punch a lion in the mouth and the lion just curled up into a fetal position and waited until you were done hitting it...would you still have respect for lions? Would you still view lions as the king of the jungle? Now if the lion mauled your ass the moment you even looked like you were about to hit it...you think you'd try and hit it again? RESPECT

I think it all has to do with how people where raised and where taught to believe was right or wrong. I would never hit my mother, so I hold myself to that standard that I would never hit a woman unless its self defense.
As far as guys getting beat by their girlfriends, you have every right to defend yourself by any means necessary. Which also means, you would only use the minimal amount of force required, unless your life is in immediate danger. I said this before in one of my earlier posts.

I wish I could reply without quoting your entire post, but it was so good I had to. I understand and mostly agree with what you are saying. You killed me with the lion analogy.
You have every right to feel the way you do, but I just can't agree with hitting a woman under any circumstances. I disagree that violence is the only approach that a man can take to discourage a woman from attacking him. I guess if you are a man in an abusive relationship you can always leave the same way a woman can. Does there have to be "consequences"? Does the violence have to be met with retaliation in kind just for respect. I cannot agree with this sort of logic it does not seem necessary to me.

I'm gonna have to disagree a bit. RESPECT doesn't come with beating on someone; self defense or not. And self defense has it's limits. Defending yourself is doin enough to discourage your attacker from accosting you any further. If we want to talk about Chris/Rihanni, then NO, he wasn't defending himself cuz her wounds do look like someone was fending their person from her. If we want to talk a REAL MAN, it shouldn't even take more than two strikes to stop a woman...
Either Chris Brown can't fight or he was just beating on her...
Rihanna - 5'7"- 5'8" and 125 lbs
Chris Brown - 5'10" - 6 ft and 180 lbs (he's prolly taller than me, so he should weight a bit like me)
No contest. He shouldn't have had to beat her face in, to defend himself. But I don't know the true story, so I'm not passin' judgement...

Respect may not come from beating on someone but allowing someone to beat on you shows a lack of respect for yourself. I agree with Mike82's statement "you would only use the minimal amount of force required". If you're being attacked by a female and make the decision to hit her back...that doesn't mean beat her into a bloody pulp. Best to save your strenght anyway because 9 times out of 10 she's going to run to her brother, father, uncle, etc.

Now I agree completely. But that pic of her shows he went overboard...
